9.15 am Field Trip to Scattery Island and West Clare

Scattery Island, at the mouth of the River Shannon, is near Kilrush in west Clare. The monastery, said to have been founded by St Senan in the sixth century, suffered under the Vikings in the ninth and tenth centuries and was largely destroyed in Tudor times.
